Kashu Kagemitsu was considered one of the most talented swordsmiths of his time. Some historical texts even recount that the samurai and lord Hōjō Ujiteru presented a Kagemitsu blade as a gift to Date Masamune, the famous Daimyo of Sendai. This demonstrates the high regard in which this swordsmith was held for the quality of his work.

A beautiful blade over 550 years old in excellent condition, with no forging flaws.
This sword has been shortened (o-suriage), like most swords of this era, to adapt to the new fighting techniques of the early Edo period. This explains the loss of its signature, but does not detract from the fact that this blade is of high quality.
The hamon is ko-gunome with a deep and even nioi, typical of Kashu Kagemitsu’s work.

The hada, ko-itame, is of good quality, regular, uniform, and well-forged.

This blade has a rare and sought-after feature: a Homare Kizu. The Homare Kizu is a mark left on the blade during combat, usually on the mune (the back of the blade), when two swords clash. This is clearly irrefutable proof that this wakizashi was seen on a battlefield, most likely during the famous Sengoku period between 1477 and 1573, the era of the Warring States.
